WCE READING LAB · ADVANCED ARABIC
اقرأ ما وراء السطور.
Read the argument. Hear the unsaid.
Three independent practice forms for advanced non-native readers. Original Arabic passages, English questions, evidence-based explanations.
Choose your reading challenge
Suggested study conditions: 60 minutes per form, no dictionary, translation tool or outside help. This is WCE guidance, not official DLPT timing. Read all four options and choose the single best answer based on the passage. Practice feedback can help with later items, so use Test mode for a less coached first attempt.
Answers stay in this browser when storage is available. No name or account is required. A new attempt replaces this form’s saved answers.
Complete all 20 questions first. First selections are locked in Study mode. In Test mode, answers remain editable until submission.

Rubric · interpret performance with care
This rubric accompanies the selected form. It describes the kind of evidence to look for; it does not award a government proficiency rating. No raw-percentage-to-ILR conversion has been established for these original items.

WCE practice feedback
0–9 / 20: revisit the arguments and evidence. 10–14: mixed comprehension; identify recurring misreadings. 15–17: consistent performance on this form. 18–20: strong performance on this form. These are local teaching bands, not DLPT cut scores. A short advanced test cannot establish lower-level foundations or mastery across genres.
For the instructor
Discuss missed items without counting the discussion as a new blind attempt. Ask the reader to paraphrase the thesis, cite decisive Arabic wording, explain why a distractor fails and transfer that reasoning to an unfamiliar passage. Separate reading comprehension from English writing quality. Record observed strengths, inconsistent skills and next texts to sample. Use qualified independent assessment for any official level decision.
Answer key & explanations
The full key for this form appears here after completion. In Study mode, each selection also reveals its answer and explanation immediately.
Design notes & public references
Each form contains four original, compressed practice passages and 20 multiple-choice questions. Genres include policy analysis, satire, literary narrative and conceptual essays. These are distinct teaching forms, not statistically equated parallel tests or a full-length simulation. Passage and item difficulty are design intentions, not expert-validated ILR classifications. All scenarios are fictional; no passage reproduces a news article or a secure test.
