Three level-based listening tests: ILR I, II and III instructional targets. Twelve MSA recordings, sixty questions and timestamped supporting phrases.
Choose your listening challenge
Suggested WCE conditions: 25 minutes for Level I, 35 for Level II, and 45 for Level III, headphones, no dictionary or transcript, and no more than two full listens per recording. Playback controls allow pausing, seeking and replay; this site does not enforce an official listening limit. The player counts play starts, including resumes, rather than completed listens. Study mode allows slower playback. Results record the mode and play starts.
In Test mode the transcript, answer key and supporting phrases stay hidden until you submit all 20 answers. In Study mode, choosing an answer reveals the correct answer, the decisive phrase and a button to replay its supporting turn. Feedback can coach later answers, so Study scores are not uncoached results.
Answers and play counts stay in this browser when storage is available; no name or account is required. A new attempt replaces this form’s saved progress. Use the PDF questions before consulting its review section.
Complete all 20 questions first. In Study mode, your first selection is locked; in Test mode, you may revise it before submission.

Listening rubric
This rubric links observable listening skills to broad ILR descriptors. It does not convert a percentage into a government proficiency rating. Synthetic, scripted speech cannot represent the full range of live pronunciation, pace, overlap, accents and spontaneous discourse.
| ILR reference | What to listen for | Interpretation |
|---|
WCE practice feedback
0–9 / 20: revisit the argument and supporting turns. 10–14: mixed comprehension; review recurring misinterpretations. 15–17: consistent performance on this form. 18–20: strong performance on this form. These local teaching bands are not official DLPT cut scores. Even 20 / 20 does not establish the selected ILR target level.
Instructor follow-up
Before showing a transcript, ask the learner to paraphrase the position, identify the supporting turn and explain why a plausible distractor fails. Then compare the decisive wording with what they heard. Sample unfamiliar human speech in different accents, genres and delivery conditions for a broader picture. Assess comprehension separately from English writing quality.
Answer key & guiding phrases
The complete key appears after submission, with an explanation and a replay link for every item. Timestamps identify the whole supporting speaker turn, not exact word boundaries.
About these level-based tests
Each level contains four recordings and twenty questions. Levels I and II use new WCE material; Level III curates WCE Advanced Listening Form A, so prior exposure can affect that score. All scenarios are fictional. Levels are design targets, not calibrated classifications. These sets are not full-length operational DLPT simulations.
